LateRooms.com can announce that people staying in Sydney hotels over Easter may be looking for a way to mark the event.

Visiting the city's Wentworth Greyhound Race Track for its annual Golden Easter Egg Trophy event could be just the way to celebrate the holiday for anyone seeking something more unusual than an Easter egg hunt.

Greyhounds on the course will chase the Easter bunny round, with many people having a flutter on their favourite canine.

The annual race is contested over a 520m track, with a first prize of AU$250,000 (£138,119) for the top dog.

Smaller prizes of AU$5,300 are available for the dogs that win a heat, with AU$6,000 up for grabs for each winner of a semi-final race.

If you are not going to be in Sydney over the Easter weekend, you could still catch some of the action as the ten qualifying heats and semi-finals take place the weekend before Easter Saturday.

In addition to the main event, there are also a number of other races on offer for those who do not make the final, such as the Globe Memorial Easter Chase 720m which will feature 16 dogs.

Described as Australia's richest greyhound event, it is definitely a different way to spend the Easter weekend.
