TAIPEI, TAIWAN, September 2005— —ATEN International Co. Ltd., a leading designer, manufacturer and distributor of advanced connectivity solutions today announced the acquisition of Wellsyn Technology, a Taiwan-based provider of Intelligent Platform Management Interface (IPMI) and remote system management applications. Wellsyn is the only Taiwan manufacturer of IPMI SoC (system-on-chip) solutions and owns leading IPMI 2.0 technology capability. With the completion of the acquisition, ATEN will not only gain Wellsyn Technology’s patent rights, but will also acquire the entire R&D team and the IPMI core technology competence. The acquisition of Wellsyn will be complete on September 26, 2005.

“Our acquisition of Wellsyn Technology completes our vision of a holistic suite of solutions that consolidate various data center devices and servers running on multiple platforms to provide network administrators with a more efficient information infrastructure. Wellsyn’s IPMI-based solutions will complement and integrate seamlessly within our product line, thereby providing greater control over servers,” said Kevin Chen, President of ATEN International.

Introduced in 1998 by Dell, Intel, HP and NEC as version 1.0, the IPMI specification is used to monitor server physical health characteristics, including temperature, voltage, fans, power supplies and chassis. IPMI is a hardware level interface specification that defines a common, abstracted, message-based interface to platform monitoring and control functions. IPMI, already embraced by more than 178 companies, is designed to reduce TCO by enabling IT administrators to maintain server uptime. In addition, IPMI technology can be used in Internet, email, storage and PDA applications.

Founded in March 2004, Wellsyn Technology provides SoC, firmware, OS porting and basic AP samples for its customers to speed up the time to market for overall software and system development. “We are pleased to provide ATEN with a dynamic R&D team with a depth and breadth of expertise focused on remote management solutions and SoC to help the company optimize our patent-pending iKVM and IPMI technologies within their product mix,” said Jerry Chen, president of Wellsyn Technology.
