GITEX 2005, recognised as the one of the top ICT exhibitions worldwide, will see tough competition among big names in the server market, as they battle for market share and revenues in this high-spending region announced organisers Dubai World Trade Centre (DWTC).

“With the server market enjoying nine consecutive quarters of growth, top industry players will be coming to GITEX to further their business reach,” said DWTC Director General, Helal Saeed Khalfan Al Marri. “Key players will be focusing on the Dubai event to generate the necessary regional boost for this booming segment,” he said.

Industry leaders including IBM, HP, Dell, Sun and Fujitsu/Siemens will be among those displaying the latest technological advancements and top of the range products.

Leading industry analyst IDC’s Worldwide Quarterly Server Tracker report indicates that factory revenue in the worldwide server market grew at 5.6% year over year to AED 44.81 billion (US$12.2 billion) in the second quarter of 2005. This marks the ninth consecutive quarter of positive overall revenue growth.

For second quarter 2005, Linux servers posted their 12th consecutive quarter of double-digit growth, with year-over-year revenue growth of 45.1% and unit shipments up 32.1%. Microsoft Windows servers showed strong growth, as revenues grew 14.3% and unit shipments grew 10.9% year over year, the IDC report adds.

At GITEX, businesses are expected to cash in on the trend predicted by IDC. Trends indicate changing IT acquisition patterns and product mix of server investments. With IT spend in the region expected to increase substantially in the coming months, businesses will be looking to maximise their investment in infrastructure to better handle business-processing workloads.

GITEX 2005 will take place from September 25-29, 2005 at the Dubai International Convention and Exhibition Centre. Last year the event featured 939 exhibitors who represented more than 2,428 companies from 41 countries.
