AsiaRooms.com highlights people heading to hotels in Koh Samui may like to experience a Black Moon Party on Koh Pha Ngan during their stay in Thailand.

Koh Samui's sister island is famous around the world as the birthplace of the Full Moon Party, but fewer travellers are also aware of the Black Moon event, which takes place monthly on the beach at Baan Tai.

Held on a night when the moon is dark, the party is a smaller and more intimate affair than the full moon festivities, although the love of music and dancing remains the same among those attending.

The next Black Moon Party is scheduled for March 15th and many people using hotels in Thailand will be heading to Koh Pha Ngan to join the fun.

Entrance to the event is usually priced at about 300 baht (£5.80) and party-goers will be given a coupon to exchange for a free drink.

As well as the best local DJs and sound systems lining the beach, people attending the Black Moon Party can expect to see traditional Thai entertainment such as performers with swinging fire sticks.

Situated to the north of Koh Samui, Koh Pha Ngan is a famous backpacker location and forms an essential part of the Thailand experience for many travellers.

The island features in Alex Garland's 1997 novel The Beach, which was made into a film starring Leonardo DiCaprio in 2000.
