AsiaRooms.com can announce that people using accommodation in Langkawi could test their endurance skills and see another part of Malaysia by signing up for this year's Borneo International Marathon.

Taking place on Sunday May 2nd, the race will give runners the opportunity to experience the Malaysian state of Sabah, which is situated on the northern part of Borneo island.

The area is renowned for its natural beauty and wildlife, impressing visitors with spectacular features such as Mount Kinabulu - the second highest peak in south-east Asia - and the diving hotspot of Sipadan.

Athletes planning to take part in the marathon can enter for the price of 70 ringgits (£13.50) before March 31st, or pay 100 ringgits after that date.

There will also be a half marathon and a 10 km event for runners who do not fancy going the full distance.

Earlier this month, Andrew Voon of the organising firm Championship Sports Events told the Sabah Times that he expects the race to attract participants from all over Malaysia, as there are no other marathons taking place at the same time.

"We hope by staging it in May it could attract more runners, especially from the Peninsular as well as overseas," he commented.

According to Mr Voon, 1,400 people took part in the 2009 marathon, with this year's event expected to feature at least 2,000.
