AsiaRooms.com divulges people using Shanghai hotels next month may be interested in an annual event that showcases the city's young film-making talent.

The Shanghai Student Film Festival aims to give local youngsters a platform to demonstrate creativity and innovation to their contemporaries and professionals from the movie industry.

According to the organisers, the festival aims to be "cross-cultural in scope and global in reach, for students to share their video projects and exchange new ideas".

This year, the event is set to take place at the Shanghai Community International School's Puxi Campus from 18:30 to 21:00 local time on Friday April 23rd.

There are four main categories in the festival - narrative, documentary, video art and public service announcements.

All film-makers hoping to see their work included must make their submissions before the deadline of Monday March 23rd, although digital copies can be submitted up to April 12th.

As well as the competition, this year's festival will include special workshops for people looking to hone their film-making skills.

Founded in 1996 for the children of expatriates who had made Shanghai their home, the Shanghai Community International School operates on four campuses around the city.
