The Langkawi International Masters is a 54-hole open championship taking place from Thursday April 15th to Saturday April 17th at the Datai Bay Golf Club.

Designed for experienced amateur players rather than casual golfers and newcomers to the sport, the competition is now in its ninth year and has become one of the most popular sporting events in Malaysia.

Male amateurs with a handicap of less than 15 are eligible for the stroke play tournament, which carries an entry fee of 550 ringgits (£107).

Recently named as one of the best ten courses in Malaysia, Datai Bay offers a challenging but scenic par-72 layout that measures 5,994 metres.

According to the Golf Asia website, the par-four 16th, which features dense jungle and a stream running to the right of the fairway, is regarded as the most beautiful hole.

The course is located in the north-western part of Langkawi's coastline, within the 8,000-acre Gunung Mat Chinchang forest reserve.

As well as its spectacular championship course, the club features a driving range and practice green, a nine-hole putting green, tennis courts, a pro shop and a restaurant.
