AsiaRooms.com reports anyone who has booked accommodation in Kuala Lumpur during May will no doubt experience some of the city's celebrations for the Colours of Malaysia festival.

Running from May 1st until May 31st, the entire country embraces the festivities, which involve a host of activities from singing and dancing to cultural and artistic traditions.

The various ethnic communities of Malaysia join in the celebrations, which have been taking place each year for centuries.

At the height of the festival, a colourful parade will make its way through the capital's streets, with hundreds of people dressed in bright costumes singing and dancing their way around Kuala Lumpur.

The culmination of the event is usually an impressive fireworks display above the city.

Jawad, a travel blogger who was in the city for the event in 2003, commented: "In my life I can't remember witnessing anything quite as fantastic as this colourful parade."

While there are small parades and cultural happenings taking place as part of the festival throughout May, the main parade takes to the streets of Kuala Lumpur on May 22nd.

It is free to watch the colourful procession, which is also known as the Citrawarna, as it winds its way through Malaysia's capital city.
