LateRooms.com can reveal that John Baldessari's Pure Beauty exhibition is on show at the Museu D'Art Contemporani de Barcelona (Macba) and may be a must-see attraction for many art enthusiasts.

Work by the Californian artist will be on display for people staying at hotels in Barcelona to see until April 25th, following a three-month stay in the Tate Modern in London.

The exhibition covers pieces from the 1960s right up to the modern day, including his Art Lesson pictures that mocked the preaching of instruction manuals and the texts he created during a period where he dropped imagery altogether.

Regarding this latter method, Baldessari explained: "I sought to use language not as a visual element but something to read. That is, a notebook entry about painting could replace the painting… I was attempting to make something that didn't emanate art signals."

The legendary artist did not restrict himself to the canvas and began making videos while teaching at the Californian Institute of the Arts in the 1970s, where he had access to a Sony Portapak.

With this exhibition, art lovers can give themselves a crash course in the work of this influential man and look at how his work has changed over nearly half a century.

The Macba is open on every weekday except Tuesday from 11:00 to 19:30 (local time), Saturdays from 10:00 to 20:00 and Sundays from 10:00 to 15:00, with entrance costing €7,50 (£6.78).

Commenting on John Baldessari - Pure Beauty, Jessica Reading, head of marketing for LateRooms, said: "We strongly urge people thinking of going to John Baldessari - Pure Beauty and who need hoteles en Barcelona to book early to avoid disappointment."
