LateRooms.com highlights travellers heading to the Spanish capital this spring could use the trip as an opportunity to get fit, by signing themselves up to the Madrid Marathon.

Taking place on April 25th at 09:00 (local time), the run sees participants starting at Paseo de la Castellana and covering a significant portion of the city during the race.

One of the benefits of taking part in the event is that people will get to see some of the most beautiful areas of the city, including the Parque del Oeste, Casa de Campo and the Campo del Moro.

Even if tourists staying at hotels in Madrid are not feeling fit enough to tackle the whole marathon, they can consider signing up for the half marathon or the 10 km races, which are taking place on the same day.

And if running sounds a lot like hard work, people could concentrate their efforts on cheering on all of the athletes as they attempt to finish the course, which is 42.195 km long for those doing the whole marathon.

According to What's on When, more than 120,000 runners have completed the race since it was first launched in 1978.

Entrance to take part in the Madrid Marathon is €45 before March 31st and €85 after that, with registration taken online.

Jessica Reading, head of marketing for LateRooms, commented: "Demand for the Madrid Marathon is always significant and we recommend that anyone considering attending should book their hoteles en Madrid as early as possible."
