AsiaRooms.com reports people who enjoy shopping in local markets and bazaars should think about heading to the Malaysian island of Penang at the end of this month if they are in the country.

Travelling to the Little Penang Street Market could be a great day trip for anyone staying in accommodation in Langkawi.

Each day, two ferries run between the two islands, allowing tourists to easily travel between the two locations.

Every month, the nearby island of Penang hosts it street market, which takes place on the final Sunday of the month.

Visitors on April 25th will be able to hunt through the 70 or so stalls which line the streets around Upper Penang Road.

With the stalls selling their wares from 10:00 until 17:00 (local time) there is ample opportunity to find some gifts for friends or mementos of your stay in Malaysia.

Crafts, food and drink are all on offer, as well as a host of live performances to distract you from your bargain hunting.

The market prides itself on only providing the highest quality local products, with the requirement that all the items on sale are hand-made in Malaysia and comprise at least 70 per cent local materials.

A gallery is also located in the area, showcasing pieces by up-and-coming artists from Penang, while regular book readings take place to highlight the talents of Malaysian authors.
