Travellers who enjoy nothing more than taking to the open seas on a sailing vessel may want to make sure that they are in Pattaya at the end of April reports AsiaRooms.com.

From April 30th until May 4th, the Thai town will be playing host to the Top of the Gulf Regatta.

Anyone staying in accommodation in Pattaya will be able to watch some of the action unfolding on the waves of the Gulf of Thailand.

Sailing fans are promised four days of racing, with ten or more classes of vessel taking part.

The regatta is the largest sailing event to be held in the country, which could be a draw to people staying in accommodation in Thailand.

Ray Roberts, winner of the Coronation Cup in 2009, is intending to return to Pattaya with his own boat this year, according to the organisers.

As well as a number of entrants from all over the world, the Top of the Gulf Regatta attracts a large number of Thai vessels, giving locals an opportunity to showcase their sailing prowess.

This is the seventh year that the event has been held, with organisers reporting their highest ever number of international entries.

World Event Guides suggests heading to Jomtien Beach to get the best views of the action, while all the boats will be moored at the Ocean Marina Yacht Club.
