AsiaRooms.com highlights holidaymakers travelling to Malaysia during the first weekend of May might find themselves surrounded by adventure racers, as the Wilderness Langkawi Challenge brings athletes from all over the world to the island.

Guests staying in hotels in Langkawi at this time may spot athletes taking part in a number of different sports as part of the famed stamina race, including hiking, mountain biking, swimming, kayaking and running.

Teams from as far away as Australia, Sweden, Spain and the US have travelled to Langkawi in previous years to take part in the challenge, which offers cash prizes to the top racers.

Competition is divided into two categories - Slow and Steady for beginner-level entrants and Fast and Furious for advanced competitors - and racers compete in a range of athletic activities.

The event is designed to foster teamwork and showcase skill and endurance among the competitors - and it is one of the biggest contests of its kind in south-east Asia.

In addition to the race in Langwaki, Wilderness Malaysia offers a number of other outdoor events and contests, including the Kayak Round Langkawi Expedition, which is set to take place later this year.
