LateRooms.com can announce that the countdown has begun for the 2010 International Dance Festival in Bath, which will bring star performers from around the world to the city.

Running from Saturday May 1st to Monday May 3rd, the event is both a major celebration of the art of dance and a chance for local students to add new steps to their repertoires.

One of the most eagerly anticipated aspects of the programme this year is a world record attempt, with the organisers hoping to arrange the biggest ever Umbrella Dance from Singing in the Rain.

This event is open to children aged between five and 18 from affiliated dance schools and will be held in Laura Place, Great Pulteney Street on Sunday May 2nd.

In the evening, the festival's masked ball is set to take place in the Georgian Assembly Rooms, providing an excuse of people using hotels in the Cotswolds to get dressed up and hit the dancefloor.

Featuring three live bands playing music for salsa, Argentine tango and ballroom dances, this event runs from 19:30 to 01:00 local time and tickets are priced at £25.

The festival concludes with more dance classes and a closing cabaret show on Monday May 3rd.
