ICELANDAIR PRESENTS SECOND ANNUAL
TICKET TO FLY-THE BEATLES TRIBUTE
AT MALL OF AMERICA
(
PRLEAP.COM) COLUMBIA, MD, September 19 – Icelandair and Mall of America will again collaborate to present the second annual free weekend tribute to the Fab Four. “Ticket to Fly-The Beatles Tribute” will run October 21-23 in the Rotunda of Mall of America in Bloomington, MN. Best of The Beatles-The Pete Best Band will headline the event that will also feature concerts by Meet The Beetles, the Charlz Newman Band, LD Cruiser and the Tones and The End. A competition will also be held for musicians to perform songs written by The Beatles and will be judged by The Pete Best Band (
www.petebest.com).
Pete Best was the original drummer when John, Paul and George began their fabled journey in the clubs of Liverpool and Hamburg. He now leads a six-member band in concerts around the world recalling the music that launched what was to become the heartbeat of Rock & Roll. His company, Best Wishes Productions, has just released “Best of The Beatles – The Pete Best Story,” a documentary that will air around the world, including broadcast by PBS in the United States. A supplementary DVD includes never-before-seen footage of The Beatles.
Icelandair’s “Ticket to Fly” will kick off at noon Friday, October 21, with Meet The Beetles, who will perform five one-hour concerts scheduled throughout the day (12:00pm, 2:00pm, 4:00pm, 6:00pm and 8:00pm). Each concert will feature a different period of The Beatles musical career. Please visit
www.meetthebeetles.net for information about this fantastic Beatles tribute band.
The Charlz Newman Band, from St. Paul, MN, third-place winners of the 2004 “Ticket to Fly” competition, will open Saturday’s program at 12:00pm, followed by the 2005 Tribute competition throughout the afternoon. Preliminary judging will be decided by Icelandair prior to the event. All entries must be received by October 3, 2005. Complete Rules of Competition are listed below and are available at
www.icelandair.com/petebest. There is no fee to enter the competition. The Pete Best Band will judge Saturday’s competition and announce the winner during their concert Saturday night. There will be one Grand Prize.
LD Cruiser and the Tones, from Austin, MN, who won the second prize in last year’s event, will open for The Pete Best Band at 6:00pm. Pete Best will take the stage in the Mall’s Rotunda at 7:30pm.
The musical tributes will conclude Sunday with a concert by the winning band at 2:00pm, followed at 3:30pm with a performance by The End, from Bloomington, MN, last year’s Grand Prize Winners. The End performed in April at The Cavern in Liverpool and recorded an original song at Pete Best’s studios in The Casbah, the Merseyside club that launched The Beatles in 1960.
In addition to a concert in the Rotunda at Mall of America, this year’s Grand Prize winner will receive “Tickets to Fly” to the UK from Icelandair, in addition to many surprise gifts from The Beatles Story and The Cavern Club in Liverpool, VisitBritain and Pete Best.
All events, including the competition, are free and open to the public.
