LateRooms.com can announce that Bargain-hunters booked in to accommodation in Rome this spring should take a trip down to Via dei Coronari while they are there, as the May Antiques Fair will be running all through that month.

The temptation to head to boutique shops and fancy department stores can often be great, but travellers may have more chance of finding a unique gift or priceless item at this annual event.

Running from May 1st to 31st, the fair has a great atmosphere and there are plenty of weird and wonderful objects to peruse, even if people are not intending to buy anything.

"It is all steeped in tradition, the Via dei Coronari being named after the coronari (Italian word for rosary sellers) who sold rosaries to pilgrims visiting Rome in previous centuries," explained travel website iExplore.

The items for sale are not the only draw, as the surrounding buildings are part of the historic quarter, with architecture dating back to the 15th and 16th century, according to the internet resource.

What's on When described the fair as the "great Mecca" for both domestic and international antique-hunters.

It is free to get into the market and it is open every day of the week from 10:00 to 13:00 and 16:00 to 23:00 local time.

If you're heading to the May Antiques Fair this year, we strongly advise that you book your hotel Roma as soon as possible, given the huge popularity of the event.
