AsiaRooms.com divulges for people staying in Langkawi hotels in May, there is an opportunity to take part in the birthday celebrations of one of the region's members of the royal family.

On May 17th, the state of Perlis will have a national holiday to honour the Raja of Perlis and it could prove to be a spectacle for anyone visiting the island of Langkawi.

This popular holiday island is part of the north-western Malaysian state of Perlis and, as such, will hold its own festivities to mark the date.

Each year, the Raja releases a birthday honours list, much like the Queen in Britain, with prominent local people receiving awards for their hard work and contribution to society.

Many of the celebrations for the event are likely to be centred around the state capital of Kangar or the royal town of Arau, which can be found approximately ten km from Kangar.

Anyone who wants to take a day trip away from Langkawi to see the mainland could find that travelling on the Raja of Perlis' birthday is a good way to experience some cultural events as well as the scenery.

There are several ferry companies which offer crossings from the holiday island back to the mainland on a regular basis.
