AsiaRooms.com can announce that people who have booked Pattaya hotels for the end of May should consider taking a day trip to Rayong.

This is because from May 30th until June 6th, the city will be celebrating the second year of its Funky Fruit Festival.

According to the organisers, the event is "a borderless celebration of heritage, nature and culture".

Those staying in Thailand hotels may find that it sounds like too good of an opportunity to miss.

Rayong is famous for growing star fruits and this edible treat takes centre stage for many of the celebrations.

An exhibition dedicated to the exotic food will also be on show throughout the course of the festivities.

The event was designed to promote Thai fruit to tourists in the country and last year it formed part of a ten-day national campaign to encourage visitors to try some of Thailand's natural produce.

There are also musical performances, poetry readings and heritage exhibitions taking place around Rayong during the course of the festival.

One of the highlights is a music festival, which features Thai artists as well as several other musicians from around the world.

Attendance is free and the city is easily accessible from Pattaya with regular bus links running on a daily basis.
