President Of Building Blocks Child Care Wins Women In Business Award
The Triangle Business Journal Recognizes Lois Stephenson

Raleigh, NC – Lois Stephenson, President of Building Blocks Child Care & Development Center, has been recognized as one of the top businesswomen in the Triangle by the Triangle Business Journal. She received the award at the Women in Business Gala held on August 4, 2005 at the Sheraton Imperial in Research Triangle Park. Stephenson is being honored as one of 25 Triangle female executives who have displayed outstanding leadership in the local business community.

“I am honored to be a recipient of the Women in Business award,” said Stephenson. “This award honors the top women executives in the Triangle and it is truly humbling to be listed among them.”

About Lois Stephenson:
President of Building Blocks Child Care & Development Center, Stephenson established her first center in August of 1993, providing high quality childcare for children between the ages of birth through 12 years. Her parents were instrumental in helping her learn fundamental skills of planning, writing, self-discipline, accountability, and creativity. When she married and started her family, she and her husband established a farming business that greatly controlled their lives and taught austerity, cash-flow management, budgeting, financial accountability, and hard work. After the heartbreak of the death of her son, Lois became more acutely aware of the vulnerability and fragility of children. On her 51st birthday, she broke ground for the future home of the first Building Blocks Child Care & Development Center. She is a founding member of the Partnership for Children of Johnston County, former Chairperson of the Board of Directors and former Chairperson of the Child Care Quality Committee, Regional Vice President of the North Carolina Licensed Child Care Association, and member of the Government Relations Committee, as well as a member of the Early Childhood Advisory Committee at Johnston Community College, and was appointed to the North Carolina Child Care Commission by Governor Mike Easley.
