LateRooms.com - Dusseldorf prepares for France Festival

LateRooms.com reports Holidaymakers with a taste for French and German culture can combine the two by visiting hotels in Düsseldorf this summer.

From July 9th to 11th, the inhabitants of the German city are set to pay tribute to their European neighbours with a celebration of French history and culture on the banks of the Rhine.

Now in its tenth year, the Düsseldorfer Frankreichfest (Dusseldorf France Festival) reflects the city's reputation as the "petit Paris" of Germany and should appeal to all travelling Francophiles.

Although the final line-up for this year's festival is yet to be published, visitors can expect a lively programme of street entertainment and Gallic-themed events.

The celebration takes place shortly before Bastille Day and brings representatives from many French regions to Düsseldorf, where they promote their food, wine and local traditions.

Last year's edition of the festival included portrait painting from students of the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Toulouse, as well as an exhibition of French landscapes by local artist Friedhelm Riegel.

Another popular fixture of the programme is the Tour de Düsseldorf, a vintage car rally that has developed into Germany's largest gathering of classic French vehicles in recent years.

Despite Düsseldorf's apparent similarities with Paris, it is officially twinned with Toulouse, so people attending the festival can expect events promoting the city in south-west France.

There should also be a number of family-friendly offerings, including street circus acts, a carousel and children's bouncy castle.

In accordance with last year's prices, admission to the France Festival will cost visitors €4 (£3.50) on the first two days and €3 for the final day of activities.

Jessica Reading, head of marketing for LateRooms, commented: "Demand for the France Festival is always significant and we recommend that anyone considering attending should book their hotels Düsseldorf as early as possible."
