AsiaRooms.com - Celebrate Asalha Puja Day in Koh Samui

June 02, 2010 (PRLEAP.COM) Travel News
AsiaRooms.com divulges anyone who has booked Koh Samui hotels in July could find that their visit coincides with the annual celebrations for Asalha Puja Day.

The festivities will take place on the day of the full moon, which this year falls towards the end of the month.

It is a day specific to Thervada Buddhists and celebrates the first teaching given by Buddha.

A national holiday was observed earlier this month to mark the enlightenment of Buddha, which is something that those staying in Thailand hotels may have got involved with.

People visiting Koh Samui will be able to visit some of the temples or religious sights on the island to see the monks celebrating this day.

Buddhists will gather to chant the speech given by Buddha, called the Dhamma Cakka Sutta, which translates as "the setting in motion of the wheel of truth", according to buddhamind.info.

The ceremony usually takes place as part of the evening vigil held to mark the full moon.

One place people can visit in Koh Samui to pay their respects to the deity is the giant statue of Buddha, which stands at almost 15m tall on the north-eastern side of the island.
