LateRooms.com highlights the work of Turkish artist Kutlug Ataman is being displayed in Rome's MAXXI venue in an exhibition entitled Mesopotamian Dramaturgies.

Many art enthusiasts may already have been tempted to travel hotels in Rome to visit the new institution, which opened its doors last month.

This will be the first time that Ataman's Mesopotamian Dramaturgies is shown in full, with the show consisting of eight works, including photographs, video installations and films.

"His art explores the complex nature of personal and collective identity, giving rise to portraits of great intimacy while at the same time also tackling broader social themes," explained the venue.

Running until September 12th, the public is invited to visit and discover Ataman's vision of Mesopotamia and the construction of its identity, which is shaped by both the East and West.

The exhibition, curated by Crisiana Perrella, has been produced with the support of the British Council, Turkish Airlines and the Turkish tourist board.

As with many of his works, Ataman gives a voice to "marginal figures", in this case thos who live in the south-east of Turkey.

The art space is open from Tuesday to Sunday, 11:00 to 19:00 local time, with late closing on Thursday when doors shut at 22:00.

Entrance costs €11 (£9.15) and visitors will be able to see several other exhibitions at the new institution such as Spazio.
