Culver City locals and nearby Sony employees have discovered that a little storefront on Washington previously thought only to provide wholesale desserts is actually open for walk-in business.

Offering coffee, scones and muffins in the morning and a wide variety of desserts throughout the day, the Essential Chocolate Collection is fast becoming the destination of choice for a quick fix during the work day.
Friday afternoons are filled with people coming in to buy scones, muffins and desserts to enjoy over the weekend as the smells of brownies, cake and butter cream waft throughout the store.

According to the new owner, Melissa Sanders, the Essential Chocolate Collection opened up to the public because customers wanted to buy the muffins and desserts they fell in love with at their favorite cafes and restaurants.

Under new ownership since June, additional desserts have been added almost weekly, including lush Red Velvet Cupcakes topped with a mound of vanilla butter cream frosting and Graham Coconut Chocolate Bars, reminiscent of the seven-layer bars of childhood.

One unique aspect of the Essential Chocolate Collection is its friendly accessibility and responsiveness to customer feedback. Melissa is committed to continuous improvement and providing desserts to fit everyone’s tastes, even if it means baking soft cookies for some customers and crunchy ones for others.

The store serves coffee, teas, cappuccinos and lattes – and very rich hot chocolate. Although most customers take their goodies “to go,” the Essential Chocolate Collection offers inside and outside seating…and smells fantastic since they bake on the premises.

Located just two blocks west of Overland at Girard, the Essential Chocolate Collection is open from 6:30 am - 6 pm Monday- Friday and 9 am - 3 pm on Saturday.

For more information, visit their Web site www.essentialchocolate.com, call (310) 287-0699 or walk over to the storefront at 10868 Washington Boulevard.
