Eli Manning finally had a breakout game, and naturally, some receiver had to tag along. This week, Plaxico Burress rode the hot hand of Eli Manning and recorded a surprising 10 receptions for 204 yards with 2 touchdowns in a win over the St. Louis Rams. Not too bad for a player in Coach Tom Caughlin’s doghouse. While Manning is coming into his own, the jury is still out on Burress, as he has continuously underachieved since his early days in Pittsburgh. “He is far to inconsistent to count on week in and week out”, says Todd Lokken, President of Strategic Fantasy Football.

The second big surprise of the week was Joey Galloway from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Galloway, a former star with the Seattle Seahawks, had 7 catches for 166 yards and a touchdown in the Bucs win over the Detroit Lions. This year, Tampa seems to be back on the road to the playoffs, and Galloway is a key factor in the Buc resurgence.

Next up is Anquan Boldin, who finally got on track (along with the rest of the Arizona Cardinals) with 8 catches, 116 yards, and 1 touchdown in a 31-14 pasting of the San Francisco 49ers. Lokken says, “if the Cardinals get their act together, they can still be a factor in the playoff picture this year”.

On the flip side, there were also players who scored surprisingly low points this week, starting with Bryan Westbrook of the Philadelphia Eagles, After a huge game in week 3, Westbrook had only 15 yards rushing and 33 yards receiving while the Eagles destroyed the Kansas City defense. Finally, the last disappointing surprise of the week was Rod Smith of the Denver Broncos, who caught only 4 balls for 33 yards in the Denver victory.
