October 17, 2010 (PRLEAP.COM) Travel News
A new exhibition of Thomas Lawrence's work at the National Portrait Gallery has been put together to try to offer a new interpretation of the artist.

Entitled Regency, Power and Brilliance, this display of paintings is sure to fascinate visitors who head down to the prestigious arts space from hotels in London.

Lawrence is described by the venue as the greatest portrait artist of his time and this collection features many of his best and most famous works.

The exhibition will be available to view from October 21st 2010 to January 23rd 2011, with attendees able to enjoy pieces such as the full-length painting of actress Elizabeth Farren.

However, the organisers hope this display of his work - the first in the UK in more than 30 years - will offer a "fresh understanding" of the pictures created by Lawrence.

"A key figure in the history of British art, Lawrence created a lasting image of the vibrant and luxurious Regency period with dazzling brushwork and an innovative use of colour," observed a representative from the National Portrait Gallery.

Entrance costs £12 for a standard pass, but concessions are available. Visitors can see the venue's permanent collection for free.

Works from artists such as Sir Peter Paul Rubens and John Singer Sargent are displayed in the complex.

Opening hours are from 10:00 to 18:00 GMT every day, except for Thursdays and Fridays, when the building does not shut until 21:00.

For more information on this event visit the National Portrait Gallery website or contact the venue on +44 (0) 20 7306 0055.
