Philadelphia PA Dental Implants Expert Sounds Off on Connection between Exercise & Gum Health

October 22, 2010 (PRLEAP.COM) Health News
WILLIAMSPORT, COLLEGEVILLE AND PHILADELPHIA, PA – Philadelphia PA dental implants expert Dr. David DiGiallorenzo recently weighed in on information released by the American Academy of Periodontology regarding the connection between staying in shape and maintaining healthy teeth and gums.

A study that appeared in the Journal of Periodontology's August 2010 issue found that people who maintained a healthy weight and were physically fit reported fewer cases of severe periodontitis, according to the AAP website.

DiGiallorenzo calls the study results encouraging, and said he is hopeful that it may help solidify the point of physical fitness as a means of promoting teeth and gum health.

"We have worked to educate patients on the connection between a person's oral health and their general health," DiGiallorenzo said. "What happens in our mouths can be an indicator of other systemic issues, and potentially dangerous diseases, in our bodies."

In light of that, the Philadelphia, PA peridontics expert has promoted the importance of nutrition and exercise to his patients for some time.

"We include information on our website about risk factors and health-related issues in our ongoing effort educate current and potential patients on these topics," DiGiallorenzo, PA periodontist said.
DiGiallorenzo said regular exercise can improve all aspects of the system. He also offers customized nutrition programs and homeopathic regimes for overall body response.
"We take a whole-body approach to periodontal health and I believe this study proves that it is a wise approach," he said.
