Hotels-London.co.uk - Enjoy Hanukkah in London

November 12, 2010 (PRLEAP.COM) Travel News
Travellers staying at hotels in London at the beginning of December might like to join in the capital city's Hanukkah celebrations.

The traditional Jewish festival runs from December 1st to December 8th this year and sees a special candle lit for each night of the religious event.

While many tourists may be focused on hitting all the major attractions London has to offer, it could be an enjoyable and enlightening experience to share Hanukkah in the city.

According to VisitLondon, the 2009 edition of the occasion saw the deputy mayor of London light a huge menorah in Trafalgar Square, while traditional treats were handed out.

The website explained the festival has been taking place for nearly 2,500 years and celebrates the story of a candle in a Jewish temple which managed to burn for eight days, despite only having enough oil for one.

It is for this reason the event is often referred to as the festival of lights.

Anyone staying in the capital at accommodation such as the Flemings Hotel Mayfair over the course of the festival should keep their eyes open for opportunities to join in the Hanukkah celebrations.

As well as having the chance to learn more about the Jewish faith, people may be able to join a game of spin the dreidel.
