Running for an entire month from mid December 2010 to mid January 2011, the Chennai Music and Dance Festival 2010 will feature some of the leading performers from across India. A total of 2000 artists are expected to take part in the event which will consist of singers, musicians and dance troupes who will be performing in over 300 concerts during the celebrations.

The festival will feature famous productions of carnate music which is most well known in the Southern states of India and is a form of music that relies on singers improvising to the music. The most talented performers of this art form come from Chennai and the festival is a time for people to hear the most outstanding and elaborate performances.

Carnate music is also seen as a way to pay devotion to the gods and visitors to the city can see many concerts taking place at sacred temples and places of worship across the city.

With the festival being described as one of the world's largest cultural events, demand for Chennai hotels is set to dramatically increase as thousands of people attend the event.

Lek Boonlert, marketing head at DirectRooms.com commented: "This is a massive event not just in terms of attendees but also the number of performers that will be coming to the city to take part. Many hotels will be at full occupancy so visitors will need to book well in advance to be sure of securing a place to stay."
