Crime Prevention Products Says CCTV Must Be Fit For Purpose

While CCTV cameras are still as always used as ever to fight crime, the technology has now progressed to offer smaller, cheaper and more advanced devices. Leading security solution companies such as Crime Prevention Products advise that there is no longer any reason for companies not to consider using them, however the most important factor in terms of their effectiveness is being clear on exactly what they will be used for and where.

There is at present a wide variety of CCTV Systems available on the marketplace, and at an increasingly affordable price. Choosing the right model to match the circumstance is perhaps more important than opting for the most expensive one, so customers need to ask themselves the following defining questions:

* Will the CCTV camera be placed indoors or outdoors? – this is important since if it's to be placed outdoors it will need to be weatherproof.
* How large is the area that the camera needs to cover? – there are camera models that can monitor over a long distance with accuracy, and other models which capture close range, specifically targeted areas.
* Will the area under surveillance be dark or brightly lit? – each camera model has a minimum illumination required to function effectively. If the property is to be monitored during the day as well as the night where there is very little lighting, the CCTV camera needs to be equipped to handle both scenarios.
* Is the camera going to be installed in a place where it may be subject to vandalism? – there are vandal resistant CCTV systems specifically designed for this.
* Does the CCTV System need to operate 24/7? – if so, CCTV that feeds into a television display is not ideal, since TV's are only made to operate for a few hours per day. If 24/7 surveillance is needed, computer monitors will be more suitable than a TV, but a flat-panel LCD screen will be ideal for providing the best surveillance because it will take up minimal space, have excellent resolution, and generate less heat than other monitors.
* Does the monitor resolution match the camera's capability? – if a monitor has a lower resolution than the camera's capabilities, the images will not come through clearly. If it has a higher resolution, the image quality will be even worse. There is no point in spending money on a CCTV camera if the surveillance cannot be clearly seen, so this factor is important.
* Wired or Wireless? – while it will obviously be easier to setup a wireless CCTV System, a wired security camera is the best option as it won't suffer from interference glitches and will provide the best video quality possible.

Owner of Crime Prevention Products, Terry Rattee, concludes, "CCTV Systems are now more effective and affordable than previously, so for full peace of mind we would recommend them to all business premises, whether big or small. We always strongly advise our potential customers though that their choice of camera will greatly affect its effectiveness in getting the job done. It's important for business owners to be clear on exactly where and for what the surveillance is needed so they can match their buy accordingly."
