Travellers keen to see something a bit different during their time booked in at cheap London hotels could head to Canary Wharf to enjoy the London Ice Sculpting Festival in January 2011.

Running from the 13th until the 15th of the month, the occasion is sure to appeal to people on a budget as it is free to attend.

Guests at nearby accommodation such as the Hotel Lily Earls Court can take part in masterclasses on the 14th and 15th, with experts set to show visitors how to sculpt polar bears out of blocks of ice - classes take place between 11:00 and 17:00 GMT.

This is the third edition of the event and will see ice specialist The Ice Box bring its considerable talent and experience to the occasion.

"The festival will be bigger and better than ever with two exciting, timed competitions between ice sculptors from around the globe," the organisers noted.

On January 13th and 14th, the singles and doubles contests will take place, with participants in the former challenge interpreting the phrase Pedal Power, while the latter will create something related to the words Love London.

Tourists wanting to get to the venue by London Underground should take the Jubilee Line to Canary Wharf.

For more information on this event, visit the London Ice Sculpting Festival website or contact the venue on 020 7418 2000.
