Here is a brief description of what the book is all about.

It’s 1980, the year Mount St. Helens erupted, the US boycotted the Moscow Olympics, the attempted rescue of hostages in Iran ended in failure, and Ronald Reagan was running against President Jimmy Carter. It was a time when people, hoping to get rich quick, pursued all sorts of money making schemes. It’s October 1980, and Johnnie Collins has her life figured out now that her last child started college. She and her husband Patrick are settled in a fine old home in Pasadena. The home is perfect for entertaining their friends and Patrick’s colleagues. But a strange new young man comes into their life offering a plan to make lots of money. Her good friend Linda apparently left town suddenly according to her husband. So now, Johnnie has Linda to worry about as well as the young man. Her plan for a simple peaceful life doesn't seem so possible.
