The past couple years has witnessed some far-reaching changes in the medical profession. Not all of the changes, however, appear to benefit the patient. Further, myths surrounding medical malpractice reform persist despite their lack of evidentiary support. Doctors have begun having patients sign contracts before treatment that state that the patients will not submit frivolous claims against them. This is meaningless because lawyers are already forbidden from accepting frivolous claims. Other practice groups are charging for calls to their doctors outside of office hours, for email consultations or for missing appointments without giving the required notice.
