DirectRooms.com highlights that Chiang Mai will be presenting thousands of colourful flowers and plants as part of a major festival taking place in the Thai Northern city in February.

Running for three days only from 4th to 6th February, the Chiang Mai Flower Festival 2011 will be showcasing some of the most beautiful native flowers as well as blooms from more temperate climates. As part of the festival the famous Thapae Road within the city will be witness to a number of highly decorated parades featuring flower sculptures of elephants, birds, religious temples and other key features of the region.

Chiang Mai in particular is an important venue for the festival, as aside from being Thailand's second largest city, it also has much cooler temperatures. Due to its mountainous surroundings this results in better flowering conditions for many of the plants. In addition, one of the highlights of the event will be the crowning of the flower queen who will be the winner of a beauty pageant featuring some of Chiang Mai's most beautiful residents.

Attendees travelling from a hotel Chiang Mai should head to the show's venue at Buak Haad Park where many of the region's 3000 varieties of orchid will be on display along with roses, tulips and white and yellow chrysanthemums which are popular during the colder season.

Lek Boonlert, marketing head at DirectRooms.com commented: "The flower show attracts huge numbers of visitors each year and this has an impact on hotels in the area. Booking places early is essential if people want the best accommodation."
