DirectRooms.com reports that Luang Prabang in Laos will be staging a conference of international organisations that will be meeting to review the new ways to combat the effects of flooding.

The International Conference on Flood Risk Reduction and Land Management in the Mekong Basin will assess a variety of techniques and procedures being used to contain the Mekong River.

The main theme of the forum is titled: 'sustained implementation and planning for future challenges' and will look at the methods needed to continue the safe management of the area and possible dangers with the affects of climate change.

The conference is being organised by a number of world groups including the Asian Disaster Preparedness Center and the GFA Consulting Group who will be speaking and providing expertise during the various discussion points.

Some further topics being covered will review flood plains along the Mekong and how land can be used to best effect to prevent flooding. Attendees will also be working together to organise a schedule to prepare against floods on a more localised scale in certain districts.

Start date for the event is set for 23rd February up until 25th 2011 and with many new delegates expected to arrive in the city visitors may experience difficulty finding available hotels in Luang Prabang.

Lek Boonlert, marketing head at DirectRooms.com commented: "This is a major conference addressing key issues for the area and will be well attended by delegates as a result. Free hotel spaces are not going to be common but by planning in advance people can search for suitable accommodation."
