On February 27th a Meditation Flash Mob will converge on the State Capital grounds in Austin to illustrate and promote a message of peace and harmony by bonding together for one hour of silent meditation followed by 11 minutes of sound bathing, a collective chant for peace.

There are expected to be well over 1,000 participants in Austin for Sunday's meditation and Austinites will be joined simultaneously by 8 other cities around the nation including in Los Angeles, CA, San Francisco, CA, Cincinnati, OH, Boulder, CO, Asheville, NC, and Phoenix, AZ. This is the second such event to take place in Austin and is expected to be much larger.

"It's really quite amazing: a mob of several hundred people sitting and surrounding the Capital in a chorus of sound!" says Ben Heath, a yoga instructor at Black Swan Yoga and one of the founders of the movement. "As the center of self-expression and creativity, the throat provides a means to unleash the universal energy of all life as an expression of the higher source within you, whether you call it Om, Ah, God or Allah. By unleashing our highest vibrational sounds we allow for change to grow from within" says Heath.

By publicly meditating, the group intends to create an environment for people from all walks of life to come together in meditation, expose others to the practice, send positive intentions out to the world, and lead with the example that simple acts can provide a major contribution to the continuing shift in thinking that the world is experiencing.

"The mission is to promote peace, prosperity and freedom for all people. It transcends politics, religion, race, age and sex. People are ready to acknowledge and embrace the inner voice that is telling us we should give back to the world in gratitude for all we have," says Heath.

The idea for the Meditation Mob came to Heath during a personal meditation. In addition to a visual image of a convergence of people meditating outside of the Texas Capital Building he realized that the world is in the midst of a paradigm shift, a change in consciousness. "I was compelled to contribute by organizing a group meditation and shared my idea with a close group of fellow yoga teachers who shared my enthusiasm. My friend and fellow teacher Joshua Adair had been similarly inspired months before to organize a sound bath at the Capital, so we joined our ideas and the first Meditation Flash Mob event was born!"

The next MedMob event in Austin will take place on Sunday, February 27, 2011 at 12:00 p.m. Participants will meet on the grass in front of the South entrance to meditate for one hour, followed by 11 minutes of sound bathing as one group, where each person can express their own sound of unity. The sound bath will allow each person to solidify the intentions sent out during meditation.
