Freedom of Mobility Foundation, Inc., the charitable branch of United States-based transportation contracting firm and paratransit service provider, MV Transportation, Inc. awarded $10,000 to fund the D.C. Center for Independent Living's Travel Training program.

The D.C. Center for Independent Living offers comprehensive, individualized travel training to teach people with disabilities how to travel safely and independently on accessible public transportation throughout the Washington, D.C. metropolitan region.

"The D.C. Center for Independent Living is delighted to receive this generous award from such an outstanding organization. … This donation will greatly facilitate our outreach to emerging populations and underserved minority populations whose transportation needs are among the most challenging in the District of Columbia," says Richard Simms, Executive Director for the D.C. Center for Independent Living.

The Freedom of Mobility Foundation's Board of Directors works with non-profit organizations with goals to assist the transportation disadvantaged community across the globe.

"Freedom of Mobility Foundation was created to address needs just like this one. It is our goal to help people with disabilities learn to safely use public transportation and in turn, give them greater independence," said Quisa Foster, project manager for Freedom of Mobility Foundation.

In addition to this grant for the D.C. Center for Independent Living, the Foundation provided funding to Access Living of Metropolitan Chicago and Center for Independent Living of South Florida earlier this year.
