BroadSkill and Synergy chosen for huge MoD training project

October 21, 2005 (PRLEAP.COM) Business News
Subject to the confirmation of terms, BroadSkill and Synergy have been selected as the two resource providers for what is probably the UK’s largest IT user training initiative. The project is valued at over £3 million in year one and involves training around 175,000 staff.

In March of this year, the ATLAS consortium was selected by the MoD to supply Increment 1 of the Defence Information Infrastructure (Future) project. The DII(F) project, over 10 years, is intended to replace numerous individual information systems throughout the MoD with a single, more efficient information infrastructure.

EDS is the prime contractor for the ATLAS consortium and intends to use BroadSkill and Synergy as sub-contractors for the end user training element. It is envisaged that the delivery will consist of a mixture of classroom-based training and floor walking. This first phase is expected to run for a year from this December and will involve up to 100 trainers and training coordinators.

Apart from expertise in Microsoft Office 2003 and Windows XP, all trainers will need to be security cleared. To help with resourcing, the two providers will establish an ‘ATLAS Academy’ designed to skill suitable personnel to support the project. This new initiative has received the support of the Institute of IT Training.

Daniel Hanlon, MD at Synergy, said: “We went through a tough bid process in competition with some of the largest training providers in the industry and I’m very pleased that our offering has been deemed to be the most attractive. Our focus now is on working closely with BroadSkill and ATLAS to make the delivery an equal success.”

Stephen Fletcher, MD at BroadSkill, said: “This is a tremendous opportunity for some of our existing freelance trainers to secure long term work. I’m also pleased by the establishment of the ATLAS Academy which will provide an injection of new talent into the training industry and allow those making the difficult transition to civilian life to establish new rewarding and profitable careers.”
