DirectRooms.com highlights that visitors to Udaipur in May should take the opportunity to visit a colourful festival being held that celebrates the bright and vibrant nature of summer time.

Summer Festival is one of the leading festivals in the state of Rajasthan and is made up of an explosion of folk music and traditional dances. Visitors can see all of the songs and traditions that typify Rajasthan which are performed by artists dressed in beautifully ornate costumes.

The start of the event always begins with a ballad and the local folk dances of Ghoomar, Daph and Gair are then re-enacted where spectators can see the grace of each performance. During the day the festival also features plenty of action with a boat race held on Nakki Lake. The evenings are then more subdued for the cool summer nights as people can sit back to listen to the poetry recitals by the poets known as 'qawwals'.

The festivities actually are held on Mount Abu although the airport at Udaipur is the closest and as such people flying in to attend are bound to stay at Udaipur hotels which will cause less availability at places.

Dates for the event are decided by the Hindu calendar and this year it will run for three days from 15th to 17th May 2011.

Lek Boonlert, marketing head at DirectRooms.com commented: "A highlight of Rajasthan's festival calendar, many extra visitors are due to attend and this will result in hotels being left without any spare rooms. Attendees however can go online to secure rooms in advance."
