DirectRooms.com announces that Venice will be filled with the sound of orchestras and choirs as the city hosts an international competition for non-professional groups.

Festival Musica Sacra is a chance for musicians and singers to compete on an international stage against music groups from around the world. The festival is divided into two sections for choirs and orchestras who will have to perform a collection of music pieces. Choirs specifically have to sing sacred music or religious hymns while the orchestras are asked to follow classical music pieces.

This is the third edition of the event which will run from 17th to 21st May 2011 and the performances will take place at a number of renowned churches in the centre of Venice. Each group will have 30 to 40 minutes to perform their pieces and impress the judges and all attendees will then take part in a festival concert to combine the collective talents of all the parties.

The event is being organised by MRF Music Festivals who can also arrange practice sessions with the conductors and afterwards trips to see the city's beautiful main attractions. With large numbers of groups and their members heading to the city, hotels in Venice are likely to be more difficult to find than usual.

Lek Boonlert, marketing head at DirectRooms.com commented: "As contestants arrive in Venice, hotels will be over subscribed near to where the performances are being held. Booking ahead is advisable for all those attending."
