Software Allows Mac, PC Clipboards to Share Network Data Seamlessly

A Florida company has developed a software program that allows computers to share clipboard contents regardless of which operating system they are using.

CrossClip™, designed by Jacksonville-based Stretched Out Software Inc., allows users to quickly transfer lines of text and software development code between computers that are connected to the same network. CrossClip simplifies information transfer by eliminating the need to create and save temporary files solely for that purpose. The new software allows Mac OS X users to share clipboard contents back and forth with the competing Windows operating system.
“CrossClip runs transparently in the background on each computer and performs both sending and receiving functions as necessary, which means the data can be sent in either direction between computers,” said Erik Ievins, vice president of Stretched Out Software. “There’s no interface to get in the way, and the manner in which data is transported can be configured for an automatic setting or can be done manually via mouse-click from the CrossClip menu.”
The new software can come in handy for everything from workgroups who compile documents in a team setting and share pieces of data over a network to software developers who develop products using multiple operating system platforms.
Cross-platform capability begins shortly after the program is installed. There are no complex compilers to manage in order to use CrossClip. After running Stretched Out Software’s simple installer, the program runs silently in the background just like your computer’s traditional clipboard. CrossClip was designed to operate using Mac OS version 10.2 and up and Windows 2000/XP. A free demo is available for download at www.CrossClip.com.
“Crossclip is one of those unique applications that comes along every once and a while that makes you say ‘Wow!’,” said Menko Johnson, an instructional designer who beta-tested the software. “It makes life so much easier sharing information on your network, and once you start to use it, you can't stop! Crossclip is an ingenious little piece of software that’s invaluable.”
“We’re really pleased with the initial results we’ve received,” said Ievins. “We believe we have developed another tool to help make the modern office more efficient.”
