DirectRooms.com announces that the Seurasaari district in Helsinki will be holding its traditional bonfire festival this June where visitors can attend to see typical Finnish celebrations and the impressive bonfires that are lit for the occasion.

Seurasaari Midsummer Bonfires combines the elements of fire and water as the district is actually a small island and the fire comes from the small bonfires that are lit everywhere. A main bonfire is built on a floating platform off the coast of the island and the traditional is that a newly wed couple get to start the blaze. People turn out in the thousands to see the roaring flames both on the island and gathered on boats near the shore.

Along with the bonfires visitors can see craftsmen and log floaters in action and the sound of live music fills the air as the folk dancers perform their routines for the crowds. Various outdoor games are also played by the birch trees and people can even learn how Finnish homes are decorated in Midsummer style.

Anyone staying at a hotel in Helsinki Airport can see the festival which takes place from 24th to 25th June 2011 and the main bonfire is lit at 22:00. Tickets are €15 and children under 12 are free.

Lek Boonlert, marketing head at DirectRooms.com commented: "The festival is extremely popular and finding hotels can become problematic as so many people come to see the events. Booking in advance online is recommended for anyone thinking of travelling to the city."
