(Carrollwood, FL) Michael L. LaVoy, president, Beacon Asset Management, Inc. will be presenting at the Carrollwood Village Kiwanis meeting, Wednesday, June 15, 2011 at 12:00pm at J. Christopher's Restaurant, 14366 N. Dale Mabry Hwy. There, he will be discussing his outlook on the economy and the market: A Blip or a Trend. "Our position is that the economy is going to languish over the next several months, so Beacon has had our clients in a defensive position since early May," said LaVoy.

With over 20 years in the financial services field, Mike LaVoy is a Certified Financial PlannerTM, Chartered Financial Consultant, and Registered Investment Advisor whose office is located in the greater Carrollwood area. Mike left the commission business, where he worked under the direction of various broker dealers and fund companies, over 15 years ago to start his own company of independent advisors, Beacon Asset Management, Inc.

"At first, it was difficult leaving the lucrative commissions world," said LaVoy, "…but I believe it not only makes me an independent advisor for my clients, it allows me to be a fair broker of information to civic groups like the Carrollwood Kiwanis."

Mike LaVoy will be focusing his remarks on investment strategies to consider whether or not the American economy can expect a "double-dip" recession, "I agree with last week's announcement by Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke who said the economy is losing steam," said LaVoy. "But whether or not the economy will meet criteria of another recession remains to be seen," he added.

In addition to discussing market and investment strategies, Mike will outline the importance of seeking impartial financial advice, "Four criteria you should consider when selecting a financial advisor is 1. Are they actively managing your account; 2. Are they providing independent, financial advice; 3. Do they carry the burden of fiduciary responsibility of your account; 4. How is your financial advisor paid?" queried LaVoy.
