DirectRooms.com announces that Auckland will be putting on a special festival to celebrate the city's distinct heritage with a diverse range of activities and tours.

The Auckland Heritage Festival 2011 will cover all aspects of Auckland with activities representing the cultural, social and architectural qualities of the city. The event will consist of a programme that will cover the entire region including guided tours around the historic sites, open days and heritage walks.

Lecturers will be giving talks on the architecture and describing the history of the most prominent buildings along with a detailed photographic collection. Visitors can also walk around the heritage markets, set up to give people an insight into how life and trade used to be in the city.

In previous years, special events have been held such as fashions shows presenting the clothing trends from various periods in history and films on both world wars. This year the activities will stretch from 17th September to 2nd October 2011 and will feature a programme full of both old and new ideas to ensure the festival is constantly evolving. Various local groups will be contributing to the schedule as well as larger organisations so that a representation of the city's community is featured for the festival.

Lek Boonlert, marketing head at DirectRooms.com commented: "The festival is an interesting way to learn about Auckland's history and visitor numbers will rise over the occasion making it necessary to book hotels in Auckland in advance."
