2011-12 Musical Fund Society Concerts Announced by Philadelphia Chamber Music Society

Philadelphia, August 13, 2011: The Philadelphia Chamber Music Society (PCMS) is pleased to announce its 2011/2012 Musical Fund Society Concerts featuring exceptional artists at community venues throughout the city at affordable prices. This series is presented in collaboration with the Musical Fund Society of Philadelphia, the oldest continuing musical organization in the United States.

2010 Musical Fund Society winner, violinist Benjamin Beilman, makes his PCMS recital debut with fellow Curtis Institute student, Yekwon Sunwoo, on piano on Sunday, March 18th, 2012 at 3pm at the Philadelphia Museum of Art. The program features the world premiere of Curtis alum, Chris Rogerson's, violin sonata along with sonatas by Mozart, Strauss and Prokofiev.

St. Lawrence Quartet violinist, Scott St. John, presents an intimate solo recital at the Curtis Institute of Music on Friday, May 18th, 2012 at 8pm. His all-American program with pianist/composer, John Novacek, features violin sonatas by Charles Ives, John Knowles-Paine and Erich Wolfgang Korngold's Shakespeare-inspired suite Much Ado About Nothing.

Long-time resident musicians at Boston's Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum, the Borromeo Quartet, are described as "…one of the defining experiences of civilization in Boston" (Boston Globe). Known for their high technical polish, the quartet makes a long-awaited return to Philadelphia with a contemporary program featuring works by Gunther Schuller, Lera Auerbach and Curt Caccioppo on Sunday, December 18th, 2011 at 3pm at the Curtis Institute of Music.

Minnesota Orchestra conductor, Sarah Hicks, will lead a concert with the Curtis 20/21 Ensemble featuring Curtis Institute President and violist, Roberto Diáz, and soprano, Anna Davidson. The program at the intimate Perelman Theater at the Kimmel Center on Sunday, December 4th, 2011 at 3pm features modern masterpieces.

The Independence Seaport Museum will host singers from one of the country's oldest choruses, the Mendelssohn Club, along with musicians from Network for New Music on Sunday, February 26th, 2012 at 7:30pm. It features the world premiere of work by Swarthmore-based, Thomas Whitman, along with new pieces by local composers Jan Krzywicki and Cynthia Folio.
