Florida, State of My Birth, Pompano Beach, My Hometown: A Pictorial Storybook, a new book by Eunice Cason Harvey, PhD, has been released by Dorrance Publishing Co., Inc.

This personal memoir, accompanied by a collection of the author's photographs, letters, and historical documents, traces the life of Eunice Cason Harvey, PhD as well as the history of her hometown of Pompano Beach, Florida. Harvey's narrative highlights important events in her life, beginning with her childhood and continuing through her career in the Florida public school system as her district transitions from segregated to integrated schools. Harvey also chronicles her political involvement and participation in historic events including the inaugurations of President Clinton and President Obama. Readers will find inspiration and hope in the story of this courageous African-American woman as they witness her efforts to improve Florida's public education system and secure equal rights and for African-American citizens throughout the United States.

About the Author:
Eunice Cason Harvey, PhD was born into a family of sharecroppers, who were the descendents of African-American slaves. In 1924, when Harvey was five months old, her family moved to her hometown of Pompano, Florida. After graduating college at Florida A&M University, Harvey devoted forty years to a career in the local Broward County public school system, serving as a classroom teacher, a dean of girls, and an assistant principal. Harvey also attained a masters degree from Boston University and a Ph.D. from the University of Beverly Hills, California.
Harvey is an active participant in her church and local community. She is also heavily involved in both local and national politics. She served on the board of the Florida State Democratic Women's Club and attended the inaugurations of Presidents Clinton and Obama. Harvey has three children, five grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and a large extended family.
