LateRooms.com - Madrid's Prado museum to display Acrobat on a Ball by Picasso

September 09, 2011 (PRLEAP.COM) Travel News
Pablo Picasso's masterpiece Acrobat on a Ball is set go on display at the Museo Nacional del Prado in Madrid.

The oil on canvas painting, which was completed in 1905, will be shown as part of the cultural institution's Invited Work programme.

It is due to arrive in the Spanish capital on loan from the Pushkin Museum in Moscow, where it is permanently housed.

Acrobat on a Ball is regarded as one of the greatest works from Picasso's Rose Period, when the Spanish artist began to use a lighter palette and focus on issues of form and volume.

"Using a limited range of colours, the artist perfectly conveyed the opposition between the grace and lightness of the female acrobat and the solid bulk of the athlete," the museum explained in a statement.

The painting will be available to view from Saturday September 17th to Sunday December 18th.

Admission to the Prado costs €10 (£8.70), or €19.50 with an official guide. Senior citizens pay a reduced price of €5, while students and children can enter for free.

The museum is open between 09:00 and 20:00 local time, Tuesday to Sunday.
