Middlethorpe Hall in York is to play host to a special food tasting and demonstration event next month called Breaking the Mould.

Taking place at the historic William and Mary country house on October 2nd 2011 from 14:30 BST, it aims to introduce attendees to the wonders of Georgian-era jellies, using original moulds from the 18th and 19th centuries.

These spectacular creations are worlds away from children's party fare, with recreations of Solomon's Temple in blancmange, Wedgewood-designed fruit baskets and gilded jelly fish ponds among the items on offer.

People wishing to attend this showcase of jellies, flummeries and other moulded delicacies can purchase tickets for £26, which includes afternoon tea, while York Civic Trust members and Friends of Fairfax House will receive a £2 discount.

Breaking the Mould is one of many food tasting experiences taking place in Middlethorpe Hall over the coming months, with wine and whisky samplings also planned.

The National Trust-owned property has been standing since 1699 and is surrounded by 20 acres of manicured gardens and parkland.

Gastronomic connoisseurs can find a diverse selection of York hotels at LateRooms.com, such as the Marmadukes Boutique Hotel.
