LateRooms.com - Madrid museum to launch Berthe Morisot exhibition

October 21, 2011 (PRLEAP.COM) Travel News
A new exhibition dedicated to French painter Berthe Morisot is due to open in Madrid next month.

Hosted by the Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum, the show is set to run from Tuesday November 15th to Sunday February 12th next year and will be the first solo exhibition of Morisot's work to take place in Spain.

Born in 1841, the artist was a member of the circle of painters who became known as the Impressionists and displayed much of her work at the Salon in Paris.

Her paintings mainly depict landscapes and scenes of domestic life among the upper-classes in late 19th century France.

Morisot, who was married to Edouard Manet's brother Eugene, has been described by the Madrid venue that will exhibit her paintings as "a modern woman ahead of her time".

The show in the Spanish capital will include works from the Thyssen-Bornemisza Collection and about 30 pieces owned by the Marmottan Monet Museum in Paris.

Tickets to see temporary exhibitions at the Thyssen are priced at €8 (£6.90), although a reduced price of €7 is available to those who book online.

Located near the Prado, the museum is closed on Mondays and open between 10:00 and 19:00 GMT from Tuesday to Sunday.

LateRooms.com recommends a wide variety of places to stay in Madrid that should appeal to art fans, including the Hostal Oriente Hs.
