October 20, 2011 - Today the Michigan House of Representatives passed the long awaited and highly anticipated House Bill 4293 and its companion House Bill 4294 by a vote of 98-10 and 107-1, respectively.

These bills will replace, if enacted into law, the current statutes in Michigan that regulate fireworks use and possession. Specifically, it would legalize the use and possession of federally labeled 1.4g consumer fireworks. These consumer fireworks would include bottle rockets, aerials and firecrackers. In addition to legalizing consumer fireworks, the new law would also create a fund for firefighter training. Other benefits of the House Bills would be increased jobs and a boost to the Michigan economy.

Big Fireworks, a family owned small business based in Lansing, Michigan, have been working closely toward the passage of this bill. James Stajos, Big Firework' vice president of operations, had this to say when he was asked about the Michigan House of Representatives passage of the House Bills 4293 and 4294.

"I am really excited about the outcome of the House vote today," said Stajos. "This new law would create jobs and increase revenue for Michigan which is currently being lost to neighboring states. In addition, it will supply much needed and deserved money for firefighters across Michigan."

Stajos along with House Democrat Harold Haugh and House Majority Leader Jim Stamas have been working closely for passage of House Bill 4293.

After today's events, the next step is passage of Michigan Senate Bill 0193 and then on to the Governor desk for signing. House Bills 4293 and 4294 were passed with strong bipartisan support proving that when it comes to job creation and economic growth both parties are willing to work for the betterment of Michigan citizens.
