Phuket is home to the Phuket King's Cup Regatta, which is one of the biggest regattas to take place in Asia.

This event first took place in 1987 and was established to celebrate the birthday of the King of Thailand, and has been held during the first week in December every year since. The event has the patronage of the Thai royal family and the event will include 5 days of races as well as a lavish opening ceremony and a royal awards ceremony at the end. The event attracts both competitors and spectators and each year thousands come to the city to attend.

The Head of Marketing at Phuket.Net, says, "With such a prestigious event as this, many more tourists will be coming to the city and it is expected that the hotel rooms available will fill very quickly. Booking as far in advance as possible is the best way to avoid disappointment."

Phuket hotels come in all shapes and sizes so there is something to suit all tastes. The marina areas are easily reached by public transport and there are a number of hotels which are located very close to the marinas for those who do not want to travel too far.

The Phuket King's Cup Regatta is organised by the specially set up committee, who work closely with other organisations such as the Yacht Racing Association of Thailand and the Royal Thai Navy.
